This repository provides derived datasets and generating codes for eight key climate modes based on 23 CMIP6 pre-industrial control (piControl) simulations and observation/reanalysis products. The included modes are: Eastern Pacific El Niño (EP-El Niño / ENSO1) Central Pacific El Niño (CP-El Niño / ENSO2) Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation (IPO) Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) Subsurface Dipole Mode (SDM) Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) Southern Annular Mode (SAM) Contents Spatial and Temporal Structures: Each climate mode includes both its spatial and temporal representations. Temporal Structure: Mode indices, including normalized indices, are provided for each simulation and observational dataset. Spatial Patterns: Spatial patterns are available as Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOFs) and regression-based maps. Regression Analysis: Key climate modes have been regressed against their designated climate parameters using the normalized mode indices to retain amplitude information and quantify relationships more accurately. There 8 regression based netcdf files are provided containing the modes with the order observation/reanalysis(ERSSTv5/ORAS5/ERA5), Models (CanESM5, HadGEM3-GC31-LL, EC-Earth3-CC, CMCC-CM2-SR5, CNRM-CM6-1, GISS-E2-1-G, CMCC-ESM2, EC-Earth3, E3SM1-0, MIROC6, MRI-ESM2-0, HadGEM3-GC31-MM, BCC-CSM2-MR, IPSL-CM6A-LR, MPI-ESM1-2-HR, ACCESS-ESM1-5, ACCESS-CM2, CESM2, GFDL-CM4, CIESM, FGOALS-g3, SAM0-UNICON, CNRM-ESM2-1). Generating Codes: All scripts used for deriving the modes and associated indices are included for reproducibility. (While the AMO is defined as the average of 10year low pass filtered SST anomaly over the North Atlantic as preferred in most literature, the other seven climate modes are defined based on Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) in different regions/variables).
